Grote Knip: Curaçao's most photographed beach

Grote Knip (Playa Kenepa Grandi) in Curaçao's northwest is the beach you probably already know from photos: a crescent-shaped bay of turquoise water, seen from the cliff above. From My Paradiso Curaçao it's roughly a 55 to 60-minute drive. It's the longest trip in this series, but one you won't want to skip.

What you'll find

• Free entry and free parking in the lot at the top of the bay.
• A viewpoint above the beach for the photo of your holiday; from there, take the path or stairs down.
• Basic facilities: a snack bar for food and drinks and a toilet building (small fee, ƒ1 at the time of writing).
• Just around the corner is the smaller, quieter Kleine Knip, ideal when Grote Knip fills up.

Tips

• Go in the morning: the water is calmest and clearest and it's less crowded. Late afternoon gives the best light for photos.
• Weekdays are quieter than weekends; on Sundays many locals spend the day here, and in summer it fills up fast.
• Bring plenty of water and sunscreen: shade is limited.
• Combine the trip with Cas Abao or Playa Porto Marie on the way back.
