Driving in Curaçao: what to know before you rent a car

Curaçao is best explored with your own rental car, and for many of the island's most beautiful spots, like Grote Knip or Playa Porto Marie, a car is practically essential.
A few things to know:
- Curaçao drives on the right-hand side, just like the Netherlands and the US.
- Main roads are well maintained; secondary roads can be uneven, so take it easy.
- Check with your rental company which driver's license and minimum age apply, and exactly what your insurance covers, since this varies by provider.
- Fill up in good time: gas stations are sparser outside Willemstad.
At My Paradiso Curaçao, you can have a car ready on arrival, or arrange pickup at Hato airport (12 km from the apartment). See our car rental page for the options.
